This new update in the form of a separate app lets businesses easily interact with the consumers with a dedicated business profile including a verified phone number and email.
In an interview with the Economic Times WhatsApp COO, Matt Idema said, “according to internal research over 84% of small businesses who use WhatsApp in India think that it helps them communicate with their customers, and 80% of them think that it helps them grow their business.”

The free-to-download android app for small businesses is meant to connect organizations with its consumers. Hence, it would be having a dedicated business profile for each individual business consisting of name, email ID, contact number, store address, website, business hours and products/services offered. Over time, some of these accounts will have a green tick near their names just like on Facebook which means that they are Verified Business Accounts. The business profile needs to be set up using a different number other than the personal WhatsApp messenger and can be set up with a landline number too.
Smart Messaging Tools:
The new app has some very amazing tools to help businesses communicate with their customers. These tools include Quick Reply feature which would allow the business account holder to send customized quick replies to frequently asked questions. The “Away” Feature enables a customized message to be sent to customers when the owner is offline or when he gets queries out of business hours. Another smart tool is the customized “greeting messages” to introduce businesses to its customers. One of the many perks of this app is that it is can be accessed on a desktop or laptop through WhatsApp web.
Analytics and Smart Metrics:
With WhatsApp Business, you will be able to get detailed metrics on how many messages were sent, how many got delivered and read by customers. This feature would help owners to analyze and improve their marketing strategy. The app is available free of cost, with small businesses being its target. But in the time to come it is proposed to come up with its additional analytics tools that will be chargeable. So, just like Facebook and Twitter, you will soon be able to analyze your reach and Impressions on WhatsApp too.
The new app would not affect normal users and they will be able to spam or block businesses just like they do with phone numbers. An additional feature in the app is that you can back up the WhatsApp messenger data to WhatsApp business account but you won’t be able to retrieve it back to the messenger. The app has been effectively rolled out in Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, the U.K. and the U.S. and is very soon expected to be operational in other countries too.
As per the official news rolled out on WhatsApp blog “Over 80% of small businesses in India and Brazil say WhatsApp helps them both communicate with customers and grow their business today (Source: Morning Consult study).” The app is currently available only for Android but will be soon rolled out for iOS as well.
